KAI is advancing the industry through our leadership in transportation research at the national, state, and local levels. We have established partnerships with several renowned universities and research organizations throughout the US and abroad. Our staff is regularly involved in research projects for the:

- Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
- National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP)
- Strategic Highway Safety Program (SHRP)
- State Departments of Transportation (DOTs)
- Transit Cooperative Highway Research Program (TCRP)
KAI has also been heavily involved with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) since the firm's inception in 1985. The TRB's annual meeting is a hallmark event for our staff, many of whom present on industry topics, while others are highly engaged in a variety of TRB committees.
Our researchers are practitioners first, and recognizing that innovation does not happen without application, we have built a diverse portfolio displaying our hands-on experience.
Additionally, KAI has facilitated and conducted a variety of courses related to transportation engineering and planning, routinely offers short presentations to transportation professionals and elected officials, and offers professional development short courses ranging from half day to three days with hands-on exercises. KAI also has the capacity to conduct web-based seminars with clients, consultants, and co-workers from and to remote locations. KAI conducted several webinar series to advertise the release of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) 2010 and the availability of new analytical methods contained in the manual.
