Transit Signal Priority Research
The purpose of this research is to provide a companion document to the Transit Signal Priority Handbook that is a resource for transit agencies seeking to implement transit signal priority (TSP). While TSP is being successfully implemented across the nation, there are a number of complex systems, engineering, and integration issues that transit agencies face when designing and implementing TSP. This research identifies appropriate TSP strategies, guides the selection of decision-making and analytical tools, explores the application of industry standards, and makes an effort to demystify the implementation scenarios. The project is funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration and the project team consists of the National BRT Institute, which is a consortium of University of California at Berkeley, and the University of South Florida, in collaboration with the California Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of Transportation.
