Abby Morgan, PhD
Abby is a professional engineer licensed in Florida and Virginia with experience in national regulations setting, crash analysis, and transportation planning. She joined KAI in 2016 with over 9 years of experience and is responsible for connected and automated vehicle deployment evaluations, policy development, freight system performance evaluations, and safety analyses.
Prior to joining KAI, Dr. Morgan worked at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a Safety Standards Engineer responsible for developing Federal motor vehicle safety standards for advanced crash avoidance technologies related to braking, tires, and vehicle handling. She frequently coordinated with stakeholders to identify reasonable alternatives for regulation. Her responsibilities included regularly briefing decision makers on regulatory options and project updates; responding to Congressional and media inquiries related to technical and policy issues; and managing an agency-wide, multidisciplinary team responsible for researching automatic emergency braking systems. She provided policy support for vehicle-to-vehicle communication research.
Abby is passionate about mentoring young students in S.T.E.M. She has volunteered as a FIRST Robotics Competition team mentor for over 5 years. In her free time, you can usually find her on a hiking trail, trying new food, or working on her car.
